As the McMaster Museum of Art’s critical collection exhibition Chasm has enjoyed an official opening, mentees Christina Leslie and Alex Jacobs-Blum have been supporting the show in exhibition research and development, amongst the pursuit of other projects.
This summer, Jacobs-Blum completed the production of a publication for an exhibition she curated at Hamilton Artists Inc., Born Celestial. This exhibition catalogue is available to read and download on the Hamilton Artists Inc. website. Jacobs-Blum will be in a group exhibition in November at Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa and will be opening a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Hamilton in January 2024.
With the end of September, Alex Jacobs-Blum completed her time in the mentorship program. We want to take this opportunity to congratulate her on the realization of her curatorial and artistic projects and wish her all the best as she takes steps forward in her career.
Christina Leslie will be continuing in the mentorship program, and we are thrilled to announce that she has been appointed the curator of our April exhibition SUMMA, the annual graduating exhibition for the McMaster University School of the Arts Class of 2024! We are excited to have her leading a talk and tour through the Chasm exhibition on October 25th and participating in a Curators in Conversation with exhibition curator Betty Julian on November 1st.
We are pleased to share that the Art Gallery of Ontario has acquired one of Leslie’s series EveryTING IRIE for their permanent collection, and she has been selected as one of the artists from the International Open Call for the Exposure Photography Festival in Calgary, Alberta at Contemporary Calgary for February 2024.

Alex Jacobs-Blum and Christina Leslie will be sharing their contributions to Chasm in the form of an exhibition document containing in-depth research and discourse conducted during their time in the mentorship program. This document will be publicly available in the coming months and will serve as an informative resource through which to expand our experiential offerings for the exhibition.
The BIPOC Curatorial Mentorship program is supported by funds from the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Office of the Provost, McMaster University.
