RECENT ACQUISITIONS

The McMaster Museum of Art’s Acquisitions Committee meets on a regular basis with the Curatorial team to advise and oversee acquisitions, through purchase or donation, of works of art for the museum’s permanent collection.

Our acquisitions aim to advance the museum’s mission to de-westernize the collection, programming, and scholarship. In addition, the Committee is focused on purchasing works from living artists in order to directly support contemporary artists living in Canada today. This intentional shift in acquiring work was formalized in the museum’s 2020/2025 Strategic Plan, which launched January 1, 2020.

Purchases are made possible through the generous support of the Naomi Jackson Groves Fund (for the purchase of Canadian art), the Donald Murray Shepherd Trust, and the Museum of Art Collection Trust.
