About the Awards
The City of Hamilton Arts Awards is one of the oldest programs of its kind in Canada and has been at the forefront of recognizing creative talent since 1976.
Each year, citizens nominate artists for consideration by independent juries of arts professionals who choose notable artists and arts community leaders to honour for their excellence and contributions to Hamilton.

About stylo starr
stylo starr is an established visual alchemist and creative facilitator based in Hamilton, Ontario. Her artistic process involves both digital and hand cut paper collage, with a focus on found vintage media. Her work is a meditation on Black culture, life and fantasy.
Speaking about her collage practice in an interview with Gavin Stephens, stylo said, “I try to create worlds and oases where Black people can exist – and just exist. And not feel a risk of persecution for anything.” Learn more about stylo and her work by visiting her website.
