On September 28, artist Mischa Kuball was on campus to present both a performative action with his book ‘public preposition’ in front of the Museum and a public talk. We are delighted to be able to share a significant portion of his fascinating talk here.
Düsseldorf conceptual artist Mischa Kuball, has been working in the public and institutional sphere since 1984. In his installations and photographs he uses light as a medium to explore architectural space as well as social and political discourses. Reflecting on a whole variety of aspects from sociocultual structures to architectural interventions as well as emphasising or reinterpreting their monumental nature and context in architectual history. Public and private space merge into an indistinguishable whole in politically motivated participation projects, providing a platform for communication between the audience, the artist, the work itself and public space.
Since 2007 Mischa Kuball is Professor at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne and Professor for media art at Hochschule für Gestaltung/ZKM, Karlsruhe. Since 2015 he is member of North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, Duesseldorf. In 2016 he was honored with the first German Light Award.
