Basin, the Great Lakes sculpture/installation, which has graced and grown in our Artist Garden for the last two years has now been purchased by the Museum and placed in a new permanent campus home. Fittingly, it has been installed by the entrance to the Dr. Robert and Andrée Rhéaume Fitzhenry Studios and Atrium, the hub of McMaster’s Studio Art Program.
Basin was created in 2016 by TH&B, a creative partnership of Hamilton-based artists Simon Frank, Dave Hind, Ivan Jurakic and Tor Lukasik-Foss. The metal structure is only part of the piece: on top of it, a variety of plants and interventions will be added over time. We are anticipating similar, but different, modifications from those made at the work’s previous location and we look forward to watching the Basin evolve over the seasons and years ahead.
