Last week, Calgary artist Chris Cran was in Hamilton to present an Artist’s Talk at the Museum. Here, for those who missed it or wish to see it again, is the recording of that talk. (The volume and variety of artwork that he showed us was astonishing!) His slide show begins at the 3:40 minute mark.
Following this presentation, the artist led a walking tour through the exhibition It’s My Vault (on view until May 9, 2015) and discussed he paintings he selected from McMaster Museum of Art’s collection.
Chris Cran’s work has been exhibited across Canada in solo and group exhibitions, and is held in numerous major Public Gallery Collections. Cran has lectured widely in Canada, is an active advocate for the arts, and received the Doug & Lois Mitchell Outstanding Calgary Artist Award in 2014. A major survey of Cran’s painting is currently in development by the Art Gallery of Alberta and the National Gallery of Canada, which will open in September 2015 and May 2016 respectively. This talk is presented as a complement the current exhibition at McMaster, It’s My Vault, combining Chris Cran’s selections from McMaster’s permanent collection with a work of his own.
