Exciting news of beautiful and timely resources…
The McMaster Museum of Art is pleased to announce the launch of the Burnaby Art Gallery’s new bilingual website and publication on senior Canadian artist Takao Tanabe.
The website, www.formandplace.ca, showcases works from both the touring exhibition and book Chronicles of Form and Place: Works on Paper by Takao Tanabe. It incorporates a full image gallery of Tanabe’s works on paper, a selection of texts, programs and activities for educators as well as exclusive footage of the artist’s studio.
The book, a hard cover, full colour, 104 page publication, includes essays by McMaster Museum of Art’s Senior Curator Ihor Holubizky, Denise Leclerc (former Curator of Modern Canadian Art, National Gallery of Canada) and Darrin J. Martens (Director/Curator of Burnaby Art Gallery). It is now available for purchase at the McMaster Museum of Art.
Chronicles of Form and Place, a partnership between McMaster and the Burnaby Art Gallery, is a retrospective exhibition of the artist’s works on paper – many never before seen by the public. It was presented at the Burnaby Art Gallery in winter 2012, is on view until December 8, 2012 at the McMaster Museum of Art, and continues as it tours to The Nanaimo Art Gallery in Nanaimo, BC and The Reach in Abbotsford, BC.
This book and website are rich resources, providing an opportunity to examine Takao Tanabe’s history of art-making.
