About the Artist: Chris Myhr

Chris Myhr is an interdisciplinary artist working with sound, the moving image, photography, electronics, and media installation. His work explores intersections between art, ecology, and science – with an emphasis on embodied experience, materiality, and practices of “deep listening” (and looking). He is based in Hamilton, Ontario, and is a professor in the Department of Communication Studies & Media Arts at McMaster University.

About the Artists: The Contemporaries

Ferdinando Bilanzola (1956-2001), Judi Burgess, Raffaele Caterini, Paul Cvetich, John Kinsella, Janice Kovar, Paul Ropel-Morski and Lisa Wöhrle are The Contemporaries. All McMaster University art graduates, they formed the artist collective “The Contemporaries” in the late 1980s and exhibited extensively in the Hamilton region until the mid 90s. The connections that drew The Contemporaries together – deep ties of friendship, art and their shared history with McMaster and Hamilton – have remained intact throughout the years.

About the Artists: Shake-n-Make

Shake-n-Make is a queer art collective founded by current members Claudia B. Manley and Liss Platt based in Hamilton, Ontario whose work directly references the 1970s while elevating craft and subject matter beyond kitsch to speak to our current moment in history. Recognizing that our current era bears more than a passing resemblance to the 70s, Shake-n-Make endeavours to manifest these connections in its work. Liss Platt is also a professor in the Department of Communication Studies & Media Arts at McMaster University.

This exhibition was created in collaboration with Adriana Kuiper. She will not be present for this artist talk, but you can learn more about Kuiper’s work here.

About the Artists: Sally McKay and Von Bark

Sally McKay is a Hamilton-based artist and writer who sometimes also teaches art at McMaster University. In 2014, she completed a Ph.D. in Art History and Visual Culture at York University, exploring connections between art and neuroscience. She has been collaborating with Von Bark on multi-media art installations since 2005.

Von Bark is a Hamilton-based artist, writer and musician. He is a founding member of the ZenExistential Puppet Theatre.

About the Speaker: Dr. Michael Noseworthy

Dr. Michael Noseworthy is a professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Co-Director of the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Noseworthy’s work focuses on developing comprehensive and diagnostically useful protocols when using medical imaging technologies. His research involves MRI and in vivo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, as well as the fusion of MRI with EEG, EMG, ultrasound and other imaging methods.
