McMaster Museum of Art and the Student Wellness Centre Present Find Your Way Back: Grounding Through Creativity

In celebration of Black History Month, McMaster Museum of Art and the Student Wellness Centre are coming together to bring Black students at McMaster a mindful and creative collage workshop facilitated by stylo starr – a Hamilton based visual alchemist, creative movement facilitator and curator.
Find Your Way Back: Grounding Through Creativity will be hosted live on zoom on February 16th, 7-8:30pm. The workshop offers space for uplifting your personal well-being and is a chance to tap into your creative mind.
The workshop will begin with grounding through mindful breathing exercises and gentle seated stretching, followed by a collage making session where stylo will go over tools, tips and tricks. Participants are encouraged to create collaged environments or spaces that create a sense of liberation and joy. The session will close with more mindful breathing and words of gratitude and/or affirmation.
We encourage you to come prepared with some tools to help support your collage practice.
Suggested supplies include:
- Scissors (craft scissors, or x-acto knives)
- Glue (glue sticks or modpodge)
- Used cardboard or cardstock
- Used magazines, books and/or photos
- Scrapbook paper
- Markers, pens
- Glitter, stickers, old fabric (get creative!)

About stylo starr
stylo starr [she/her] is a visual alchemist, creative movement facilitator and curator based in Hamilton, Ontario. stylo’s work centres Black people, fantasy and notions of the Afrofuture while also exploring cut and paste as a grounding and healing creative modality. She demonstrates this through facilitating creative mindfulness workshops open to a variety of age groups and experiences. stylo is for art that reflects beauty and power, and she believes prominent and positive representation of Black people in fine art is critical and necessary.
