The McMaster Museum of Art is celebrating its 50th Birthday!
In 1967, the first dedicated space for an art gallery opened at McMaster University with an exhibition of Canadian paintings from the private collection of Sam and Ayala Zacks. In addition to caring for the University’s growing art collection, the new gallery was established as a fundamental part of the Arts Department, and celebrated for animating student interest and exposure to original works of art, for study and enjoyment. The art collection, gallery and its programs have grown steadily and significantly ever since.
The McMaster Museum of Art is marking its 50th birthday with a series of free special events this month, culminating in celebration event at the Museum on November 23 with senior curators Tobi Bruce (Art Gallery of Hamilton) and Ihor Holubizky (McMaster Museum of Art).
