Summer 2024 Exhibitions at McMaster Museum of Art

May 21, 2024

The McMaster Museum of Art opens this summer with two exciting retrospectives! Join us at the museum on June 6, 4 – 7PM for the Opening Reception of Lori Blondeau: I’m Not Your Kinda Princess, and September 19, 5 – 8PM for the Opening Reception of The Clichettes: Lips, Wigs, and Politics.

The Clichettes: Lips, Wigs, and Politics
Curated by: Ivana Dizdar
May 21 – November 22, 2024
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 19, 5 – 8PM

Bridging theatre, lip-sync, dance, drag, costume, and comedy, the renowned Canadian artist trio The Clichettes (Louise Garfield, Janice Hladki, and Johanna Householder) developed a groundbreaking practice at the crossroads of performance art and feminist satire. This exhibition brings together over 150 costumes, props, videos, photographs, drawings, scripts, and archival materials that attest to The Clichettes’ radical vision for a better world.
Curatorial support and expertise in restoration and digitization provided by Vtape.

Lori Blondeau: I’m Not Your Kinda Princess
Curated by: Luther Konadu
June 6 – August 30, 2024
Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Thursday, June 6, 4 – 7PM

I’m Not Your Kinda Princess is the first solo exhibition by the multidisciplinary artist, Lori Blondeau in Hamilton. This exhibition is a survey of works that evinces the nuanced breadth of the artist’s three-plus decades career. An artistic career whose vigour and cultural relevance continues to grow retrospectively. The oldest work featured in this survey exhibition dates back to 1996 while the latest is from 2023.
Organized by Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art.
