April 20, 2015

SUMMA exhibition reception with crowd

Congratulations to the McMaster BFA class of 2015 – an exceptional group of emerging artists – and their understandably proud faculty in the School of the Arts.

400+ visitors joined us at the Museum this past Saturday for the annual SUMMA show reception. It was a lively celebration of the graduating students’ exhibition and significant achievements with exciting awards and announcements, and performances by Ailish Corbett and Alana Petrella, Check out the photos below – and don’t miss the show which continues until April 25!

Thank you to Ivan Jurakic, for your insights, sensitivity and enthusiastic engagement in the role of Guest Curator for this exhibition, not to mention your time (in addition to being Director/Curator of the University of Waterloo Art Gallery, Ivan is a practicing artist and member of the TH&B Collective whose large-scale artist project TH&B UNITED opened in The Cotton Factory in Hamilton on Saturday night.)

Among the exciting announcements of the day:

  • the 2015 SUMMA award winners:

Sylvia Kaczmarek (Faculty Award, selected by the McMaster Studio Art Program Faculty)
Cassandra Ferguson (Museum Award, selected by the Guest Curator, Ivan Jurakic)
    Rohidan Rajkumar (People’s Choice Award)

  • Stephanie Vegh, Artist, Writer, Executive Director of the Hamilton Arts Council and McMaster alumnus, has kindly agreed to be the Guest Curator of next year’s SUMMA exhibition!
  • This year the Studio Art students and faculty have given their time and talents, fundraising to build scholarships for future McMaster BFA students in honour of the late Professor Graham Todd. More information about it can be found via the McMaster School of the Arts
