March 20, 2014
One day each year – April 12 in 2014 – people all over the world visit local museums and galleries to look at art slowly. Participants look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet together over catered lunch to talk about their experience. That’s it. Simple by design, the goal is to focus on the art and the art of seeing.
Volunteer Rachel Tirone brought Slow Art Day activities to the McMaster Museum of Art for the first time in 2013, and it was such a success she’s doing it again!
It’s free, it’s fun, it’s eye-opening!
Space is limited.
As an added bonus, Slow Art Day 2014 falls on the same day as the Opening Reception for the graduating art students’ exhibition, Chiasmata. So if you come for Slow Art Day activities at 12 noon, you have the opportunity to stick around for the student celebration at 2 pm. A day of art that’s slow AND festive!
“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.”
– Henry David Thoreau
