McMaster Museum of Art’s Artist Garden | 2018 – 2020
This summer, Canadian artist Ernest Daetwyler is building a new site-specific work in the Museum’s Artist Garden. He will transform pieces of driftwood into a boat form, embedded with a steelcut text message, to create a visual environment for both active engagement and reflection. An appropriate work for the heart of McMaster campus, the surreal and poetic installation is intended to symbolize a time of change, challenges, and the existential fluctuations that life can present.
Stay tuned for future posts featuring the artist at work at McMaster.
Daetwyler’s multidisciplinary projects, exhibitions and public interventions are presented internationally. His numerous awards include the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, Pro Helvetia, Switzerland, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, Presence Suisse, the OAAG 2010 Exhibition of the Year Award, the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund, the Waterloo Region Arts Award and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, New York, N.Y.
The artist acknowledges the support of the Ontario Arts Council. With thanks to Donald Erb Construction Ltd. (boom truck), Joseph Weber, Gabriele Hertweck (photo) and Dana Daetwyler.
