Art is all around us, it doesn’t always have to be indoors. Take theTree Museum in Gravenhurst, for example. This museum has beautiful works of art all outside and is one of my favourite art museums. Recently I did some research and discovered that Dyan Marie, who displayed some of her photographs here at McMaster this summer in the exhibit Flowers and Photography, also exhibited her work at the Tree Museum, Experience Canada: Canadian Experience.
After speaking to a co-worker, I learned that the artist Simon Frank, who was awarded the Hamilton Visual Arts Award this year, also exhibited his artwork at the Tree Museum and that Core, his performance piece there, was later repeated here on campus. He buried a bronze-cast tree root resembling a heart, beneath the lawn in front of the Museum (see below). He also displayed his artwork at the McMaster from December 12, 2004 to February 27, 2005.
I think it is wonderful to note the connections between these museums.
Art really is all around us.
